We're doing the same thing in our district. But, I'm going to have to ask you to clarify before I post. When you say essential learnings, are you using the Ainsworth language (more of a power standards)?? I'm curious about this if it's different. For example, the goal of all trumpets being able to perform double tonguing up to a G at quarter equals 80bpm by their 10th grade year, that would be labeled an 'indicator' of an essential learning, not an essential learning itself.

I know it's semantics, I'm just trying to save time and confusion and I might like your model better once we talk more.

I'm not familiar with Ainsworth. So, in your example, the double tonguing is an "indicator" of what "essential".... articulation technique?
